Founded in May, 1878 by the decree of the Emperor Alexander II, The Siberian State Medical University is a public medical school in Tomsk, Russia. SibMed is one of the oldest institutes in Russia to study MBBS and was previously known as Tomsk Medical Institute. Siberian State Medical University, SibMed, offers medical education at undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate level in biochemistry, biophysics, general medicine, pediatrics, dentistry, pharmacy, and nursery fields. Siberian State Medical University is one among the few universities in country that has its own hospital providing medical care for citizens in Tomsk Region and other regions and also a training center for students and medical professionals. The SibMed university is the only university to study MBBS in Russia which has gained the status of the only flagship medical university in the country in 2017.
Siberian State Medical University is one of the specialized universities which is selected by the Government of the Russian Federation to take part in the implementation of the project which aims to increase education exports in the country. The University was recognized as one of the top 3 institutes in Russia in the year 2003.
