UNIVERSITY INFORMATION
Established in 1925 by James B. Duke, The Duke University School of Medicine, commonly known as Duke Med, is the medical school of Duke University located in the Collegiate Gothic-style West Campus of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. The school ranks at top among other medical school in USA in the diversity of its medical students. Among the many qualities of the program, one is its unique curriculum, in which students can contact with patients a year earlier than at most other medical schools.
Duke has a remarkable faculty-to-student ratio of 3:1 with over 2,200 full-time faculties, which includes two chemistry Nobel Laureates, employed at Duke University School of Medicine across 40 departments. Thanks to it’s an extremely low acceptance rate of just 3.2%.relatively with a small MD student body of approximately 500 students in total.
Duke’s training sites include Duke Raleigh Hospital, Durham VA Medical Center, Duke University Hospital, Duke Training Hospital, and Duke Outpatient Clinic. In an effort to give students time to pursue their research interests and complete a second degree, the University has divided the core curriculum into three years instead of four. Students spend the remaining one year pursuing their research interests and completing degrees.
